There are only two approaches to data collection from paper forms: to involve many people in manual data keying in, or to start using automatic form input system.
The choice is simple.
Manual data entry is boring and troublesome. It implies many problems such as delays in data capture, great amount of operator’s misprints, high expenses for labor, rent of office space, etc. The only decision of all these problems is automatic data capture system.
ABBYY FormReader is a desktop, but still powerful boxed solution, enables to process up to 1000 pages daily on a workstation. If the workload exceeds possibility of standalone operator, ABBYY Enterprise Forms, client-server form processing solution is that you need to streamline input of thousands forms a day. |

ABBYY FormReader interprets machine-print (OCR), isolated handprint (ICR), including alpha and numeric, mark sense (OMR) and barcodes from paper forms gathered from a scanner or a fax machine.
After form identification and data recognition, ABBYY FormReader highlights the uncertainly interpreted characters for an operator’s confirmation. In such a way ABBYY FormReader concentrates the operator’s attention only at 0,5-5% of inputting data, so the operator spends just seconds verifying suspicious symbols rather than minutes manually keying in entire form. In addition, ABBYY FormReader can automatically check the interpreted data for validity against customer’s databases, standard and user-defined dictionaries, and checking rules. Read Preliminary, Scanning, Recognition, Verification, Export, FlexiForm, System requirements pages for the detailed description of form processing stages.
Finally the extracted data looks exactly like the data you get from your current manual system. But you get it faster, and the captured content is more accurate and reliably correct that is undoubtedly critical for your business. The department involved in data input is now well controlled, perfectly compact, and scalable to be able to process any bulk of forms.

Processing of all kinds of forms.
ABBYY FormReader is able to process many kinds of forms, even those had not been specifically designed for machine input through imaging.
The best results are achieved in case of drop-out and so-called “raster” forms using. ABBYY FormReader interpretation accuracy is perfectly outstanding if the form had been developed according to the requirements of machine readability. For instance Colaroid Informatique, the European branch of Lacour group, based in France, integrated the ABBYY solution into its products for form processing. The error percentage, according to Colaroid Informatique, is mainly under 0,5 % of captured volume.
Due to advanced features of separating inputting data from the field borders ABBYY FormReader enables customer to process automatically black & white paper forms which contain fields bordered by frame, comb, and underlined text. With ABBYY FormReader you can even process unstructured documents like a bank payment orders. Such “flexi” documents contain similar data elements to be captured but are designed with different page layouts, so that the locations of the data is irregular. It is possible to capture these data due to a unique FlexiForm technology. At the beginning of 2002 more than 350 banks in Russian Federation had chosen ABBYY solution based on FlexiForm for the payment processing.
